These are the steps required to pre-allocate SAN storage.
- Use this SAN pre-allocation form (found on the same page as this)
- Decide how much storage will be required (in units of 33GB)
- Complete the form as fully as possible and send to *gt uk san support group
- The SAN team will then allocate the storage to a SR (Storage Request) number
- The storage requested will be entered onto the Storage request database
- A mail will be returned to the requester including a copy of the updated form with the SR number
- The storage will be available about three months after the form has been sent back
- This number must be used for all correspondences to ensure continuity
- If new information becomes available or the storage requirement changes, please update the ticket and resend it. Please ensure you highlight the change in the sent mail and the form.
Requesting SAN connection ports and Zoning the Storage
Please Note: All storage/zoning requests must be submitted to the SAN SUPPORT team by close of business on Wednesday of the week prior to the request date AT THE LATEST.
- When completing the ARTS ticket to have the server installed select YES to question related to EMC storage.
- Oliver Cabling / Site Management will have your server installed and pass a ticket to us (SAN SUPPORT) to request the Switch ports
- We allocate a pair of free switch ports from an available list
- The ports are split across two independant fabrics, this ensures redundancy within the machine room
- The details are returned to Oliver Cabling in the ARTS ticket.
- Oliver Cabling then perform the required cabling and close the ticket
- Providing the new server is available it will connect or 'login' to the fabric
- We will be able to see the WWID (or WWN) of the server's Emulex card from the Connectrix Manager software
- The new Server Administrator then needs to send us (SAN SUPPORT) another ARTS ticket
- This ticket should contain the SR number, the amount of storage required, the type and the WWN for each FDDI (Fibre) port.
- We can check the WWN supplied in the ARTS ticket against what is shown at the Switch
- If the two line up correctly, it ensures the cabling has been completed successfully.
- Subject to the storge Request being valid (with the pre-allocation database) we can then zone the storage during the following weekend
- If requesting storage for a clustered environment please ensure all servers are listed on the ARTS ticket so they are all connected at the point of storage allocation
