SanDB - SanDB Host Decommission Procedure

Overview

This document will outline the commands that are necessary for performing a host decomission within the Citigroup SAN environment. The document is purely technical in structure, and assumes that all required paperwork is in order and completed.

Process

The process for a host decomission should be performed as follows :-

Retrieve appropriate ARTS/VT ticket containing confirmation that the host is to be decomissioned with respect to the SAN storage environment

Confirm that the current storage utilization for the host within SanDB:

From within SanDB, remove the metas associated with the host. Please note that you should remove down BOTH paths as shown:

Now that the storage has been decomissioned from the host, remove the host object from within SanDB as shown:

 root@eusan-mgt1<204>sandb -rm_host -host decotest -wwn 10000000c93a656f
 root@eusan-mgt1<204>sandb -rm_host -host decotest -wwn 10000000c93a6789

The host has now been removed from within SanDB, so remove the final records from within the VCMDB as shown:

 root@eusan-mgt1<204>symmask -sid 603 -dir 8A -port 0 -wwn 10000000c93a656f delete
 root@eusan-mgt1<204>symmask -sid 603 -dir 9B -port 0 -wwn 10000000c93a6789 delete

Update the SAN switch spreadsheet, which can be found at:

 \\gtesamba.eur.nsroot.net\sats-g-drive\golden_config_docs\Switch_Zone_info_CGC_RDC

Finally (and dont forget this bit!) raise an ARTS/VT ticket to get the san cabling removed from the server.
